Group visits

The Museum welcomes groups and can tailor tours to suit all tastes - from general interest to military enthusiasts - all are bound to be fascinated by what they discover here at Whittington.

Contact: We encourage groups to book in advance as that enables us to ensure your visit is as enjoyable as possible. Whatever your requirements we want to help. Please phone the museum to discuss on 01543 43 43 94.

War and Peace may we also suggest combining your visit to Whittington with one to the National Memorial Arboretum, a few minutes drive away at Alrewas? There you can stroll around the 150 acre site which is being planted as a living tribute to the peoples of the twentieth century. Reflect on our history with the numerous Veterans Plots and enjoy a period of quiet contemplation in the Millennium Chapel of Peace and Forgiveness where two minutes silence, last post and reveille is played and observed at 11 o’clock on every day of the year. Information: 01283 792333.

To help preserve the collection and for the safety and comfort of all our visitors please REFRAIN from SMOKING, EATING and DRINKING whilst inside the museum. The USE of MOBILE PHONES inside the museum is PROHIBITED. PHOTOGRAPHY only allowed with PERMISSION.

Severe weather guidelines

As we enter the winter season, we think it’s timely to let you know our thoughts on how the weather conditions might affect us. The museum is open seven days a week and there is a general supposition that only extreme weather such as heavy snowfalls will force us to either close early, or not open at all. Therefore, if you are contemplating a visit and snow is forecast, please feel free to check with us before making the journey. The museum office is staffed until 4pm each day. If you are calling on the day of your visit and there has been a heavy snowfall and there is no reply, it is highly likely that our staff have been unable to get in and we are closed. Whilst common sense generally prevails, the safety of our customers and our mainly volunteer staff, is paramount. Many thanks and ‘fingers crossed’ that no-one is inconvenienced.’
